book blurb

Investment banker Louise Moscow loves her new life and career in late 1980s Paris. With a high-profile dream job, plus fascinating friends and love interests in a glamorous city, things couldn’t be better. When she stumbles upon criminal activity at her company, the FBI and CIA force her to cooperate and bring down the murderous brazen bankers in what turns out to be one of the greatest scandals of the twentieth century.

Code word: FOLIAGE!

excerpt

As she descended, the temperature changed markedly. At the bottom, she found the first signs of the bones of six million people that had been stacked up against the two thousand seven hundred feet of Catacomb walls. The juxtaposition of the ancient bones and architecture with scattered graffiti of philosophical sayings and quotations on the walls was striking. The aura was sacred, somber, and spooky. There were bandits hiding out in corners, as well as people hosting parties in the “unofficial” sections. Louise hurried past them, trying to go unnoticed, keeping the flashlight beam low to the ground.

The flashlight and the intermittent candles were all that lit her path. Her eyes adjusted, providing clearer focus on the walls and corridors. She searched for any sign of a lotus flower or any other symbolic meaning for lotus. She read graffiti and plaques but found no lotus. She seemed to walk for more than a mile, possibly in circles. As she hurried along, a rock jutting up from the dirt and stone floor sent her stumbling down to her hands and knees.

Her flashlight escaped her grip, clanked, and rolled to a stop about ten feet in front of her. The beam was all she could see in the inky darkness. Now, being on her hands and knees provided a new perspective. She crawled toward the light beam, which faced the bottom of the wall on her right and illuminated an engraving. Louise recognized it as the Om Mani Padme Hum, or Hail the Jewel in the Lotus, a twelfth-century Buddhist Sanskrit mantra, meaning the lotus of whose navel forms our universe.

praise

“A deft mix of spy thriller and romance set against a backdrop of real events, namely the 1991 collapse of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI), the first of the recent wave of big financial scandals. Evanoff’s protagonist, Louise Moscow, is a sexy, smart, likable heroine who finds herself enmeshed in the shadowy world of high finance and international espionage. Set in New York and Paris, Evanoff weaves in historical details with her fast paced thriller making this a riveting and educating read.”

-Robina Gibb, LA-based writer and journalist

“Finally an intelligent romantic spy thriller! Lorraine Evanoff’s new book, Foliage: An International Spy Thriller starts off fast and keeps you hooked. The series heroine Louise Moscow is sexy, brazen and fearless in business and in love. The twists and turns keep you guessing and wanting to read on. Plus the historic events blew my mind and the depictions of the exotic locations made me feel like I was there the way Dan Brown does. I can’t wait to read book 2!! Hurry, Ms. Evanoff!”

– Nelle L’Amour, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author

“Lorraine Evanoff is a very skilled writer! Her new novel, Foliage – An International Spy Thriller, takes on some complicated historic events and wraps them in a riveting, fast-paced novel. I can’t wait to see where our title character, Louise Moscow, goes next in what should be a great series of books.”

RUE TOULOUSE by DEBBY GRAHL BOOK BLITZ & Rafflecopter giveaway 2/5/16

Rue Toulouse
by Debby Grahl
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publisher:  The Writers Coffee Shop Publishing House
Cover Designer:  Niina Cord
Release Date: January 15, 2015

It’s Mardi Gras time in New Orleans. Attending a masquerade ball, wealthy fashion designer Caterine Doucette, dressed as a shimmering ice princess, has her cool façade shattered when she encounters Bayou-born ex-cop Remi Michaud, disguised as the darkly handsome pirate Jean Lafitte. Their true identities hidden, the princess and the pirate come together in an explosion of passion and desire. But when fantasy turns to cold reality, Caterine panics and disappears into the night, unaware this man will soon be sent to rescue her from a killer and will capture her heart.

Orphaned at a young age, Caterine grew up in the home of her beloved grandmother, Miss Dauphine Doucette. Despised by her Doucette relatives for the devotion she received from her grandmère, Caterine suffered years of envy and disdain. The young Caterine learned quickly how easily the love she had to give could be thrown back in her face.

After Miss Dauphine turns over ownership of the century-old fashion house, Ma Chérie, to Caterine, an attempt is made on her life, for there are those in the Doucette family who will stop at nothing to possess what they feel is their rightful inheritance.

Not knowing whom to trust, Caterine goes into hiding. Miss Dauphine, convinced someone in her own family is behind the attack, hires Remi, now working for a private security company, to track her down and unmask her would-be assassin.

Learning that the affluent Caterine Doucette is the beautiful princess he held in his arms at the ball, Remi is torn between his growing desire for her and painful memories of another rich socialite’s betrayal. Caterine finds herself falling in love with Remi, but old embedded pain leaves her afraid to open her heart.

Down in the Big Easy, Caterine and Remi must learn to trust one another if they are to survive in a world of family greed and ruthless revenge.

“But isn’t that what’s fun about a masked ball, not knowing who the mystery person is you’re talking to? What’s better yet, you can do and say things you’d never consider doing or saying because they also don’t know who you are. As the saying goes, laissez les bons temps rouler.”
Elaine coughed, almost choking on her champagne. “Wait a minute. Back up. Did I just hear you say, let the good times roll?”
Caterine nodded. “I can’t get what happened with Jonathan out of my mind, and I’ve decided that tonight the old Caterine doesn’t exist. Since I’m in disguise, this is the perfect opportunity to prove to myself that Jonathan and those other men are wrong.”
Elaine cocked her head. “Okay, what exactly do you have in mind?”
Caterine grinned. “If I meet someone who makes my pulse quicken and my toes curl . . .” She shrugged. “Who knows? Tonight the ice princess may melt away.”
A wide smile spread across Elaine’s face. “Good for you. If I’m not mistaken, your chance might be coming this way. Good luck.”
Before Caterine could respond, Elaine disappeared into the crowd. She turned in the direction Elaine had been looking and caught her breath. The man dressed entirely in black coming toward her reminded her of a dangerous outlaw from a past century. Lean and muscular, he stood close to six foot. He wore a loose, long-sleeved, V-necked shirt, snug pants, and low boots. As he walked, his body language exuded confidence, power, and incredible sex appeal.
The closer he got, the harder her heart pounded. Okay, take a deep breath. You can do this. He doesn’t know who you are; if you make an idiot out of yourself, it won’t matter.
“Hello, Princess. I believe this dance is ours,” he said, his bayou cadence low and sultry.
Bereft of speech, she could only stare into the thick-lashed, deep blue eyes behind the handsome stranger’s black bandit mask.
He flashed white teeth in a sensuous grin. “I’m not mistaken am I, cher? You looked so beautiful standing there glittering, I assumed you must be a fairy princess.”
She swallowed hard, hoping her voice was steady. “I’m sorry to disappoint you, monsieur, but I’m not a fairy princess. I’m known as an ice princess. But who knows, I still might be able to grant you a wish.”
“No, cher.” He stepped closer. Gently placing his fingers under her chin, he tilted her head back to gaze directly into her eyes. “Whoever said you were an ice princess wasn’t man enough to release your heat. Grant me my wish and I’ll do just that.”

“Why don’t we do something tomorrow night? Saturday night is
a good night to party and since we are in our 30s, we will all be home by 11.”
I said that last part laughing and Rob joined in with me.
“So true so true baby girl. Now spill why you had a smile on
your face walking into your classroom and I get here, the smile is faded and
you had this look of panic on your face.”
“You saw that did you?” He just nodded and waited for me to
continue. “I met this guy online in the gaming community. We have known each
other for a year but more on a personal level the last few months. We have been
emailing, Skyping, and text messaging each other a lot.”
“I see a but coming on or more to the story.”
“There is a but and a huge one at that! We started calling
on the phone when we are on breaks from work and at night. We just told one
another that we like each other.”
“Has Abby decided to start dating? Oh, this is cause for
celebration.” Rob clapped his hands in excitement. He knows the hell I went
through with all of the boys that I have been with and knows the toll it took
on me.
“He lives in Florida and he doesn’t know what I look like.
What if he doesn’t like what he sees? What if he wants to make me his dirty
little secret? What if I like him a lot and he breaks my heart?” I had tears
coming down my face.
“I felt that same way when I met Aaron. We met online in the
same gaming community that you met Cash. I was terrified that he wouldn’t love
me, break my heart, or even not feel the same way. I got over that in a hurry
because we all need to take a leap of faith in the love department.”  Aaron stood about 5’11 and wasn’t as muscular
as Rob but he was well built. He had brown hair, hazel eyes, and a beard. I
wasn’t a fan of beards but my God he made it look sexy. He was a doctor, an OB
GYN. He had funny stories about how his female patients would flirt with and
ask him out on dates but when they saw Rob coming around and he told them that
he was in a relationship with him, they were heartbroken. They were not upset
about his lifestyle but the fact that he wouldn’t date them. Rob was doing well
for himself.
“I am just an overweight girl who doesn’t deserve love and
is always going to be someone’s dirty little secret.”
Rob slammed his hand onto the table making me jump. “Why is
it that you listen to all the people who are not worthy of you and ignore those
who love you the most?”
“It is easier to listen to the negative than the positive.
The people who love me most will always say what I want to hear not what is
true. Do you think I like being this way? Do you think I like doubting every
man who comes into my life? Do you think I don’t want the husband, children,
and know the feeling of what true love is? Until you have been subjected to
this way of thinking all your life, don’t get mad at me for feeling like this,
Rob.”
“Honey, I am not mad at you but just disappointed. You are
so beautiful and sexy that any man,” I went to open my mouth to say something
and he held up his hand, “who is deserving of you. I wish you could see it.
When you meet the man who is worthy of you, he will show you and you will
believe it. I think you should keep getting to know Cash and see where things
go. Keep an open mind. If all else fails, think “What would Rob say?” I am very
wise, just so you know.
I laughed, “Wise huh, maybe a wise-ass.” He feigned shock by
my words.

About the Author

collette_westCollette West grew up as somewhat of a jock-nerd hybrid. Entering the world three weeks premature, her dad nearly missed her birth because he had seats behind the dugout for a sold-out, highly-anticipated match-up between two of baseball’s biggest rivals. Not to be outdone, her book-loving mom taught her how to read by the time she was three. A love of the game coupled with an appreciation for the written word were instilled in Collette‘s impressionable brain from a young age. No wonder her characters believe in the philosophy: sports + romance = a little slice of heaven.

Splitting her time between the Pocono Mountains and Manhattan, Collette indulges her inner fangirl by going to as manygames as she can from hockey to baseball and downloading every sports romance novel in existence onto her iPad. When she’s not clicking away on her laptop, she enjoys walking her dog in Central Park, satisfying her caffeine craving at the Starbucks on Broadway and keeping an eye out for Mr. Right. But above all, she loves dishing with her readers. Email her atcollette_west@yahoo.com.

She is the author of the New York Kings series which includes: NIGHT GAMES, GAME CHANGER, GAME ON, PERFECTGAME, INSIDE GAME and GAME WINNER.
