Signs and Symptoms of Lupus Flare

Be aware of one or more of these symptoms:

  • Persistent fatigue out of proportion with what you would usually expect
  • Persistent weakness
  • Aching all over
  • Fever, which may be slight to high (you can check your temperature yourself)
  • Persistent loss of appetite
  • Involuntary weight loss
  • Increasing hair loss
  • Recurring nose bleeds
  • Sore on the roof of the mouth, which burns with spicy foods
  • Unexplained skin rash anywhere on the body
  • Hives
  • Sores on the skin
  • Painful joint(s)
  • Swollen joint(s)
  • Stiffness of the joints when waking up in the morning
  • Chest pain which increases with breathing
  • Shortness of breath
  • Coughing up blood
  • Persistent unusual headache
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Recurring or persistent abdominal pain
  • Persistent, increasing swelling of the feet and legs
  • Puffy eyelids
  • Blood in the urine

Lupus is often a self-repetitive disease: watch for a recurrence of the symptoms that you experienced when your disease started.

Coping with Lupus

Successfully managing lupus starts with awareness: awareness of your particular symptoms and how your illness affects you; awareness of what you can do to prevent flares, and what to do if you do experience a flare; awareness of any changes in symptoms or physical conditions that could suggest disease activity; awareness of the tension and stress that often accompany chronic illness; and awareness of the best coping strategies and techniques to reduce that stress.

But awareness by itself isn’t the complete solution. How May Lupus Affect My Life?
Having lupus can make the demands of everyday life challenging. When lupus is active, symptoms of joint stiffness, pain, extreme fatigue, confusion, or depression can make even simple tasks difficult, and sometimes impossible. And, because you may not have any visible signs of disease, the people around you may not realize how much discomfort and pain you are experiencing, or they may not know that you are sick at all.

You should not ignore the limitations that come with this disease. But there are steps you can take to stay active with work, relationships, and events that enrich your life. It is not easy to describe a disease with symptoms that are so varied and yet often not visible, whose effects can range from manageable to life-threatening, and whose course is sporadic, alternating between periods of wellness and flare. Walking in the park, listening to a baseball game on the radio, planting a flower garden, crocheting a scarf, re-visiting a favorite book or movie, practicing yoga or Tai Chi, meditating, praying, or some other form of spiritual practice — self-enrichment activities like these will nourish and invigorate your spirit. Taking personal time will help provide you with the strength and the relaxation you need to have a better life while living with lupus.

Lupus has taught me many of thing one thing is for sure you never know how long you have in between flares up’s.. Me  personal i don’t plan trips or vactions  because everytime i do somethings happens so my family has decide if it’s right we do .. Which works well for us .. It might no work well with others but we can plan a party in 24 hours , no lie either
